Man hits 2 women with car, stabs 3 men in attempted murder

A knifeman drove into two women and stabbed three men leaving one with life-changing injuries in an alleged attempted murder.

Armed cops were deployed at the scene in Plymouth, Devon, and a man in his 50s was arrested on suspicion of attempted murder after being found around 40 miles away.

Witnesses reported numerous people were stabbed just after 10pm near The Railway Inn pub.

Police confirmed they attended a “serious incident” at the scene and found victims suffering serious injuries.

Three men were found with stab wounds, with one suffering potentially life-threatening injuries.

Two female pedestrians were also found to have been hit by a car.

All five people were taken to Derriford Hospital for treatment.

In a Facebook video, resident Winston Churchslope said showed flashing blue lights as cops gathered outside the pub.

He said: “Looks like there has been quite a few stabbings.

“Apparently the knifing person is still on the f***ing run. He’s stabbed people and run.

“F***ing nuts. This don’t happen in Plymouth.”

Pictures show part of the road cordoned off and numerous police vehicles still on the scene late into the night.

Witnesses also reported a police helicopter circling the area following the violence.

Another resident added: “I live on Albert Road and drove home to find it closed but explained I lived here.

“I was told to go in and lock doors. Multiple police cars and emergency services including a helicopter and armed police.”

Cops said the suspect had fled the scene and police later raided an address in Beacon Park.

They did not find the suspect, but then cops then stopped a vehicle 40 miles away on the outskirts on Exeter and arrested a man.

The suspect was detained on suspicion of attempted murder and taken to the Royal Devon and Exeter Hospital.

Cops are desperately urging anyone with information on the incident to come forward and contact them.

In a statement, Devon and Cornwall Police said: “Police were called just after 10pm on Saturday night following a serious incident having occurred near the Railway Inn on Albert Road in the Stoke area of Plymouth.

“The suspect had fled the scene by the time police attended.

“Follow up enquiries meant that armed offices attended an address in the Beacon Park area of Plymouth in an attempt to locate the suspect; he was no at the address.

“Further enquiries and proactive police work led to officers stopping a vehicle near Ide on the outskirts of Exeter in which a man in his 50s was apprehended.”
