Coronavirus pandemic exposes Nigerian Government’s inadequacies

You and I have seen it all. It is no longer news our country is grappling with debilitating effects of failed leadership.

Do we need an implant of the sensory data before we know it is not advisable to continue with the same tribes of men.

The government in Abuja has failed not only woefully but spectacularly and like an infectious virus it is spreading its evil tentacles to the federating states.

Nigeria’s security machinery has broken down paving the way for return of the dreaded Sawabas.

Lagos is hardhit as we now sleep with two eyes open. What a paradox or contradiction in terms! The most helpless and agonizing web I have ever been caught in in the tide of times.

Hoodlums and robbers have taken advantage of the harsh effects of the ongoing COVID-19 lockdown weilding sub-machine guns and other dangerous weapons leaving residents helpless in open-mouthed bewilderment.

Policemen often recoil in horror and oftentimes take to their heels on sighting the invading band of marauders.

Now I have identified with my neighbours for security vigil as we enlist the help of the local vigilante groups – our only hope and last resort to stay alive amid pangs of hunger.

COVID-19 palliative via food distribution is a massive fraud as it only exists in the papers. We are left in limbo while their kith and kin eat to their fill.

Alas, all hope is lost if these stereotypical leprechauns remain at the helm. Is it not time we made an effective change?

It is time to take control of your future and that decision is entirely yours and time is now for procrastination, as they say, is the thief of time.

Posterity, I am sure, will condemn us for inaction and this, I dare say, will only lead us to a disastrous end.

We cannot continue to brood over past mistakes without taking urgent steps to correct these and plan for tomorrow.

Save yourself the agony of this impending doom by joining forces with the game-changers that we represent for this desired change.

Written Iyoha John Darlington, Edo State PPN Governorship candidate.
